If you are looking for a place to “become, belong, believe” please join us at the First United Methodist Church on 203 South 200 East. We worship every Sunday at 10:30 am for the past 103 years! Rev. Brian Hare-Diggs is the pastor of the church and gives thoughtful sermons each week. The children’s ministry is alive and well and starts bible school at 9 am. The congregation is diverse and welcoming to every person walking through the door. The Eucharist is offered each Sunday.

If you have been away from religion or are not familiar with Christianity, I encourage you to attend. People called Methodists practice “open doors, open hearts, and open minds.” I hope you consider joining us as a visitor or as a long time friend, brother, or sister in Christ.

The First United Methodist Church at 203 South and 200 East is having the 1st Annual Car Wash and Rummage Sale. We’ve been cleaning out the house along with about 100 other folks and personally know that there will be some very cool good stuff for sale. The church is raising money and asking for donations to get through the lean summer months here in downtown SLC. Please attend if at all possible and bring your car to get scrubbed by our fabulously hard-working youth group.

It is Sunday morning, the wondrous time when the birds are singing and my little girl has climbed into bed and snuggled so close that I can’t breath. I’m up and drinking that first morning cup of coffee, Sunday School lesson is already planned (thanks Kathy). The lesson is on creation, Genesis, making a mobile of all the wondrous creations of God.

I turn on the news and am now thinking Memorial Day. I’m a Methodist, a chick, and a veteran of the US Air Force. I grew up having a great pride in my family lineage on my mom and dad’s side. I am a Daughter of the American Revolution, via great great etc…. grandfather John and many other relatives have served and some died while serving the United States of America. The sense of duty to country will hopefully carry on from what I say to my daughter. Her dad is a veteran of the Army. We both served one enlistment, honorably.

I suppose what I hope from anyone that reads this is that whether you are new to living in America or have been here for generations, you think of what it means to truly be An American. We live in a country and have freedoms and opportunities that others can not even imagine. How we use or lose our freedom is up to all of us. Think of the people serving this great country we live in, no matter what our politics or beliefs. “Freedom is not Free.”

For people in positions of employing veterans. I sincerely hope you take an affirmative action stance. Please give back or help those that have served if you are able. For those being activated, please SAVE their jobs for when they come back, help families if you can, and honor them while they are away.

Let’s all do our best to care for what God has created, help those that need it, and just do our best to “do good” as John Wesley said.

Just home from church now. Matthew 6:24 on not serving two masters (God and Money). I just pray that this war we are in is for the right cause. That we are helping people that cannot help themselves.

Sincerely,

My 2nd house in Colorado Springs is in move in condition and getting more attention — but STILL actively for sale.  Here is a Visual Tour…. aahhhh. Any forwards are much appreciated! I think realtors as clients FOR realtors is equivalent to the doctors are the worst patient rule. Doesn’t it look nice… :-) .

I never ever thought I would be considering a “blog!” My life is filled with activity from sun-up to sun-down and beyond. However, a very large part of my life is my church: my relationship with God and my brothers and sisters through baptism. It is in this calling to be a disciple for Christ that I created this blog.

I am currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Salt Lake City. We have an extraordinary amount of activity happening at the church and some of the most amazing people I’ve ever known. I am praying that the congregation will flourish in it’s 2nd century of life here in Utah.

Last Sunday, we started the liturgical calendar over again with Genesis 1. Maybe this will be the year that I read the bible cover to cover? I always get stuck at the begat, begat, begat part, so maybe some “skimming” will come in handy there? My daughter was really not enjoying the deceiving serpent in the garden of eden the other night during our bedtime story time.

From the previous Sunday lesson, I still need to put my house in order! But, I hope this will be a good start to share the glory of God, the Father – the Son – and the Holy Spirit.

Peace be with you,
